Beatrice “Betty” Hummel, 92

     Beatrice “Betty” Hummel, 92, of Waverly and formerly from Allison died on Monday, September 16, 2024 at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly.
     Betty was born July 16,1932, daughter of Leon and Ida (Schroeder) Nolte of Sheffield. She was born on a farm in West Fork township near Dougherty, Iowa. She went to West Fork #5 Country School until 7th grade 2nd semester when the family moved to Sheffield. She graduated from Sheffield High School. After which she spent a while working for the FBI in Washington DC. She returned to Sheffield and was cashier at Franklin Rural Electric until her marriage.
In June 1953 she married Harry C Hummel of Allison. Betty was a devoted mother and farm wife. She was active as a 4-H leader for many years. She was a lifetime member of Farm Bureau and served as a Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Farm Bureau Woman’s Group. She was an active member of St James Lutheran Church in Allison until moving to Waverly and joining Redeemer Lutheran Church there. She was a Red Cross and Board member for 2 terms.
For many years Betty had a cosmetic business and enjoyed all her lady friends that she accumulated through her business.
Bridge was always her biggest enjoyment for many years. She played with many groups and ladies over the years.
A big enjoyment in her life was after retirement when she and Harry spent many years in Arizonia and Las Vegas in the winter.
She loved her large rural home and garden when she was younger as well as working in her flower and vegetable gardens during the summer.
Survivors include: her children, Cheryl (Woody) Davis Sauerbrei of Waverly and Kevin (Patty) Hummel of Allison. Her grandchildren: Bryan Davis of Coralville, Alyssa Davis of Des Moines, Chris (Alyssa) Davis of Pella, Derek (Mystie) Hummel of Allison, and April (Phil) Barnett of Clarksville and her great grandchildren: Hendrix and Ember Cheryl Davis of Pella; Tommy , Harley, Wally, and Frances Barnett of Clarksville; and Savannah, Jackson, and Lorelei Hummel of Allison. Her brothers and Sisters: Anite (Don) Geer of Clive, Vicki (Russ) Anderson of Belmond, Bill Nolte of Sheffield, brother-in-law Wilmer Denker of Muscatine, and sister-in-law Judy Nolte of Sheffield.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harry C. Hummel and brother and sisters: David Nolte, Helene Denker, Chuck Nolte, Patsy Nolte, and sister-in-law Phyllis Nolte.
     Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 11:00 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Corey Smith presiding. The service will be live streamed on Redeemer Lutheran Church Facebook page. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Allison Cemetery in Allison.
