Luverne Willard Becker, 96
Luverne Willard Becker, age 96, of New Hartford, Iowa, died Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clarksville, Iowa.
Vern was born on December 15, 1927, in Clarksville, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Linda (Buchholz) Becker. Vern was raised in Clarksville where he was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church and graduated from the Clarksville High School. Vern entered the United States Army from January 2, 1951, to October 3, 1952, serving in the Korean War. On May 5, 1956, Vern was united in marriage to Elizabeth Pines at St. John Lutheran Church. During his life Vern worked at Clarksville Hardware Store and later Chamberlain Manufacturing for 26 years, retiring in 1992.
Vern was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and Clarksville and New Hartford AMVETS. In his spare time, you could find Vern outdoors caring for his acreage, tinkering in his shop, or cruising around in his convertible.
Vern’s memory is honored by: son, Lyle (Deb) Becker of Nashua, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Joleen (Al) Becker-Ward of Shell Rock, Iowa; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Justin) Thompson, Scott (Laura) Becker, Janee Becker, and Jordan Becker; four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Sean, and Autumn Thompson and Evelyn Becker; sister-in-law, Alice Schwab; and brother-in-law, Paul (Linda) Pines. He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife; son, Alan Becker; grandson, Bradley Becker; and a sister Ramona Bailey.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 26, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27, at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. Burial will follow at Lyn-Wood Cemetery in Clarksville with the Clarksville AMVETS giving honors. Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
