A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Woodley Funeral Home in Greene. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. with a one-hour prior visitation on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Rich was born on November 18, 1942, in Parkersburg, IA to Henry and Sophie (Thorne) Adelmund.  He was a graduate of Greene High School.  On January 30, 1965, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Rose Zell Wordes at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville.  To their union two daughters were born, Rashelle and Robin.  The couple made their home in Greene and were life-long residents.  They are current members of St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Rich worked for Oliver Farm Equipment Company in Charles City, which in 1960 was purchased by White Farm Equipment.  He worked as a tool grinder, and enjoyed telling stories about the time he spent working there.  He got laid off from White Farm Equipment in 1980.  He and his wife had started their own business, Adelmund Concrete and Trucking in 1976 and was still working until his passing.  Rich was an extremely hard-worker and an excellent provider for his family.

Rich was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching Iowa State Cyclones basketball and football, which he held season tickets to for many years. Rich was also a Minnesota Vikings fan and racecar fan.  For several years he got tickets to the Michigan NASCAR races, and enjoyed bringing along his family.  He often took trips with his wife to Texas to visit relatives.

He was the kind of person who would do anything for you. Rich could strike up a conversation with anyone and knew a lot of people because of his business. He attended his grandchildren’s activities as much as he could.  His family was of the upmost importance; he was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Rose Adelmund; two daughters, Rashelle (Jeff) Lewis and Robin (Scott) Lursen; grandchildren: Jordan (Katie) Lewis, Jocelyn (Michael) Krueger, Stephanie Lursen, Eric Lursen and Tanner Lursen; great-grandchildren: Ellie and Lena Lewis; siblings: Larry (Heleyne) Adelmund, Delos (Delores) Adelmund, Alvin (Judy) Adelmund, Wanda Buchholz, Carol (Duane) Stotler, and Kathy (Alan) Siemons; sisters-in-law, Shirley Wordes and Ruth Adelmund, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Sophie Adelmund; brothers, Ronald and Lester Adelmund, brother-in-law, Vern Buchholz, and sister-in-law, Gert Adelmund.
