Leonard Datert Reints

Leonard Datert Reints of Waverly, IA, formerly of Plainfield, IA, died at the age of 88 of acute respiratory failure on Monday, October 30, 2023, while in Hospice Care at UPH - Allen Hospital in Waterloo, IA.

Leonard was born to Datert and Lelah (Poppe) Reints on February 24, 1935. He grew up on farms near Nashua and Plainfield, and later graduated from Plainfield High School in 1954. He married Darlene Fenneman on February 13, 1955, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville. The couple made their home in rural Plainfield where they raised their children, Susan, Owen, and Jane.   Leonard farmed, hauled milk, and then worked at Carnation/Nestle for 30 years and 3 months.

In Leonard’s spare time, he loved to go fishing and camping, work on projects in his garage, visit and play cards with family and friends, watch and feed the birds, go on bus tours with Darlene, and attend the Friday afternoon social gathering at his apartment, Red Cedar Place.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; son, Owen; brother, Richard; brothers-in-law, Herold and Galen; and great grandson, Jack. 

He is survived by two daughters, Susan (Mike) Fiske of Miles City, MT and Jane Halbert of Lake Elmo, MN; one daughter-in-law, Terry Reints of LaSalle, IL; six grandchildren, Peter (Mandy) Fiske, Jessica Quaka, Julie (Dan) Schuler, Jill (Adam Everson) Reints, Jacob Halbert, and Jamie Halbert; five great grandchildren, Carson, Mason, Sicily, Connor, and Eliot; and one sister, Arlene.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the First United Church of Christ – Pleasant Valley, with burial in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, both in rural Clarksville.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
