Vivian Ruth Chestnut, 75

Vivian Ruth Chestnut, 75, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away Saturday morning, April 13, 2024, at the Waverly Health Center due to a massive stroke.

Vivian was born on February 1, 1949, in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of A.J. and Ruth (Niehaus) Kluiter. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. Vivian graduated from Clarksville High School in 1967 and Allen School of Nursing with her RN in 1971. She later earned her BSN from the University of Dubuque in 1987. On June 24, 1972, Vivian married Robert Craig Chestnut at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. To this union, two sons were born: David and Matthew. Vivian’s nursing career started at La Crosse Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where she worked for one year and then UnityPoint - Allen Hospital for 39 years. She retired in May of 2011.

Vivian was a member of Heritage Global Methodist Church. For 30 years, Bob and Vivian enjoyed spending one week every year fishing and camping. Another week was spent with Vivian’s “Sisters-of-the-Heart” at Clear Lake. Of course, the husbands thought they should go also. The Sisters spent an additional week in Florida as a girls get away.

Vivian is survived by three grandchildren, Jesteny (Chris) Poesch of Waukee, Shelena Pascual of Nashua, and Colin Chestnut of Waverly; one great-grandson, Aiden Bloomquist of Nashua; a sister, Myrna (John) Culbertson of Waverly; sister-in-law, Beverly Engelkamp of Bellevue, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Doug (Marilyn) Chestnut of Lakeside, Montana; and her “Sisters-of-the-Heart”:  Joelle (Alan) Jensen, Mary Ellen (Jim) Brandau, and Vickie (Paul) Barth . She was preceded in death by her husband Bob; her two sons, Matthew and David; her parents; and her parents-in-law, Viva and Robert Harry Chestnut.

Funeral Celebration Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Heritage Global Methodist Church in Waverly with Bob Nellis presiding. Burial will follow in Harlington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Heritage Global Methodist Church or the Allen College Foundation and sent to Myrna Culbertson, 1216 Bach Drive, Waverly, IA 50677.
