Vern Johnson, 89

Vern Johnson, 89, of Hampton, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice.  A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Allison Cemetery.  Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Hampton is caring for Vern and his family.

 

Vern was born December 8, 1934, in Butler County, Iowa, son of George and Flossi (Berens) Johnson.  He was the youngest of 13 children.  Vern attended schools in Allison.  On March 31, 1956, Vern was united in marriage to Bernadine Vance at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clarksville.  To this union, four children were born.  On July 15, 1980, Vern was united in marriage to Mary Rodamaker in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  He farmed near Allison for many years and was affiliated with St. James Lutheran Church in Allison.

 

Vern is survived by his daughters Wanda Tiedt of New Hampton, Patti (Butch) Morris of Kansas City, Kansas, and Lisa Johnson of Des Moines; daughter-in-law Danette Johnson of Brooklyn; 11 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary Johnson; son Jerry Johnson; and siblings Kathryn, Everett, John, Harry, George, Staufer, Fred, Lawrence, Herbert, Mildred, Frances and Alfred.
