Steven Charles Lahr, 55
Steven Charles Lahr, age 55, of Hampton, Iowa, formerly of Waverly, Iowa, was born the son of Max Dean and Harriet Mae (Wescott) Lahr on May 30, 1969, in Waverly, Iowa. He received his education in Clarksville, Allison and graduated from the Tripoli High School in Tripoli, Iowa in 1989.
Steven was united in marriage with Stacey Bockes on June 18, 1994, at the Herry Woods Park, Clarksville, Iowa. The couple made their home in Waverly, Iowa, where he worked at Hy-Vee. To this union two children were born Andrew and Brittany. The couple later divorced in 2007. Steven moved, lived and worked in the communities of Tripoli, Allison and Waverly. Through the years he also had worked in the kitchen at Wartburg College and Sasquatch Jacks Restaurant, and later at Trinket & Togs and Good Will in Waverly.
His family remembers Steven as being big hearted with a with a huge smile and a good storyteller. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandson, Braylin. He enjoyed cheering on Andy and Stacey when they competed in the Special Olympic games. When it came to sports, he was a diehard fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. His favorite thing to collect was flashlights and had too many to count.
Steven passed away, Monday, October 7, 2024, at Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton, Iowa, from complications of cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max Lahr and Harriet Wescott.
Steven is survived by one son, Andrew “Andy” Paul Lahr of Waverly; one daughter, Brittany Lahr of Waverly; one grandson, Braylin Merrill; two sisters, Kathy Wallace and Charlene Nightingale; three brothers, Richard (Sally) Lahr, James (Sandra) Wescott, and Brian Wescott; three nephews, Derek Lahr, Chase Brennan and Alex Brennan; one niece, Jessica Dietz and her boys; one great-nephew Lucas Watson; two great-nieces, Brooklin Watson and Astrid Lahr; and his special friend, Stacey Lahr of Waverly.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Waverly Life Church in Waverly, with Pastor Matt Miller officiating. Special music, “Amazing Grace” and “Daddy’s Hands” will be played. Honorary Casketbearers will be Derek Lahr, Chase Brennan and Alex Brennan.
