Roger Lahr
Roger Dean Lahr, age, 70, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son Robert and Marlys (Jurgens) Lahr on July 13, 1951, in Waverly, Iowa. Roger graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1969.
On March 3, 1972, Roger was united in marriage with Marjorie Garbers at the St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. Roger lived his entire adult life in Clarksville. He started working for Shell Rock Ford while he was in high school and was employed there for 38 years. He then began working at John Deere and worked there until his retirement in 2019.
Roger was a storyteller and he enjoyed people. He began working with the Cub Scouts in 1983 and was a Scout Master from 1992 until 2011. Roger was still currently active on the Boy Scout Committee. He enjoyed taking the Boy Scouts camping up at the boundary waters. Roger also enjoyed riding motorcycle and took several trips with Eric Wedeking to Sturgis and out west.
Roger died Friday, January 7, 2022, at his home in Clarksville. Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Marlys Lahr; and a brother, Darrell Buss.
Roger is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marjorie; two sons, Richard Lahr of Clarksville and Brian (Bree) Lahr of Charles City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Alexandra (Jordan Helgeson) Lahr, Brittany (Jarrod) Barker, Shaylon (Hayley Noll) Lahr, Maggie & Braidon Bossom and Brinn & Braxton Lahr; one great-grandchild, Brooks and another great-grandchild on the way; a brother, Charles (Verla) Lahr of Greene, Iowa; three sisters, Barbara (Dean) Lane of Greene, Janet (Randy) Luchtenburg of Aplington, Iowa, and Elaine Whiting of Greene; one sister-in-law, Ardith Buss; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Redman Funeral & Cremation Services in Clarksville. Pastor Val Swinton officiated the service. Special music was “When I Get To Where I’m Going” by Brad Paisley and “In The Garden” by Alan Jackson. Burial will be held at a later date at the Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville with Roger’s grandchildren serving as honorary urn bearers.
Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Redman Funeral & Cremation Services in Clarksville and one hour before the service on Thursday.
