Robert William Fenneman, 87

Robert William Fenneman, age 87, was born January 15, 1937, the son of Clarence and Edna Fenneman. He was baptized and confirmed at First United Church of Christ, Pleasant Valley, rural Clarksville. He attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Clarksville High School in 1955. He attended Iowa State University studying agriculture for one year. Bob then moved to Waterloo where he worked in the mail room at Rath Packing company and in sales at Tractor Supply.

On December 2, 1956, Bob was united in marriage with Joyce Frericks at the Pleasant Valley Church. Bob and Joyce soon moved to his Grandparent’s farm in rural Allison where they lived and farmed for over 40 years before moving to Clarksville in 2001. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Rhonda, Michael, and Scott. Bob enjoyed his years of farming, but always made time for family and friends.

Bob and Joyce were members of Pleasant Valley Church, United Church of Christ, in Allison, and Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville. Bob served on the boards of all three churches.

Bob loved sports, he was a standout high school athlete and played both baseball and basketball. He continued playing in town team leagues as an adult. He was a league bowler and a first-year member of the C.A.R.D. golf club. He enjoyed golfing into his retirement years. He was an avid lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.

In the community, Bob was a member and frequent board member of the Lions Club. He volunteered delivering meals for over 12 years. He was a member of the United States Army Reserve for six years and a member of the Clarksville AMVETS, volunteering to drive veterans to hospitals.

Bob and Joyce enjoyed traveling and went on many trips with family and friends. When not traveling they spent time at dances, card parties, bowling, and golfing.

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, he passed away at Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clarksville, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Edna (Kollman) Fenneman; his in-laws, George and Pauline (Wedeking) Frericks; an infant sister and an infant daughter, Paula Jean Fenneman.

Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce (Frericks) of Clarksville; children, Rhonda (Troy) Marshall of Allison; Michael (Natalie) Fenneman of Davenport, and Scott (Joyce) Fenneman of Bristow; grandchildren, Amanda (Josh) Brouwer, Anthony (Michelle) Marshall, Lindsay Landers, Amanda (Shane) Smith, Andrew Fenneman, and Elena Fenneman; 13 great grandchildren, Justine, MaKenna, Kyler, Jesse, Kendall, Klaire, Aubrie, Adri, Eyla, Hayden, Landrey, Emery, and Taye; two brothers, Glenn (Gail) Fenneman of Waverly and Bruce (Patricia) Fenneman of Clarksville; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Frericks of Elk Run and Sandra Frericks of Loveville, MD.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville, with Pastor Jim Brown officiating.  Jill Pliner was the pianist, and she accompanied the congregation as they sang “How Great Thou Art”, “The Borning Cry”, “In the Bulb There is a Flower” and “Go Now in Peace”.  The burial was held at Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville with Kyler Grummitt, Jesse Brouwer, Andrew Fenneman, Anthony Marshall, Shane Smith and Merlyn Hirsch serving as Casketbearers.  Joyce Hirsch and Sherry Litterer served on the Flower Committee.

Visitation was from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Friday, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services in Clarksville.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
