Robert “Bob” Carl Dilly, 97
Robert “Bob” Carl Dilly, age 97, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of Harvey John and Marie Ida (Landers) Dilly, on January 4, 1927, at home in rural Allison, Iowa. Robert was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison. He received his education at Allison Schools. Robert served in United States Army Air Corp during the later part of WWII and was honorably discharged.
On August 15, 1948, Robert was united in marriage with Maxine Lucille Scribner at the Community Church in Clarksville. After their marriage, the couple lived in rural Clarksville where they shared equally the responsibility of managing both the farm and home. In 1989, Robert and Maxine retired and moved into Clarksville. Robert was still very active with the farm and was awarded the 75 Year Legacy Soil & Water Conservation Award this past summer. Robert was mechanically inclined and helped many neighbors fix their farm equipment. He was also a talented woodworker and made many items of furniture. Robert built their first home on the farm and over the years he built all the other buildings.
Robert was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville, where he had served as council president. Robert served on the board of Clarksville Nursing Home, was a member of the Clarksville AMVETS and the Lions Club. Some of his hobbies were going trap and target shooting; camping and fishing where he especially enjoyed that time with his grandchildren. Each day he looked forward to attending his men’s coffee group.
Robert passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly, Iowa, from complications of a stroke. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Maxine in 2003, and his parents, Harvey and Marie Dilly.
Robert is survived by his five children, Barbara Dilly of Shell Rock, Iowa, Marcella Best of Omaha, Nebraska, Lorraine (Ron) Hamel of Madrid, Iowa, Lois (Michael) Miller of Waterloo, Iowa and David (Loreli) Dilly of Shell Rock, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Michelle Gibilisco, Joshua (Melanie) Dilly, Erika (Matt) Flynn, Ashley (Tony) Bohnenkamp, Evan (Dayna) Hamel, Dainen (Denise) Dilly and Landon Miller; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Louise Kollman of Waverly, Iowa and Vada Luhring of Grundy Center, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, October 21, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. Pastor Charlie Underwood officiated the service. Tony Bohnenkamp was the pianist and Michelle Gibilisco provided special music as she sang “Take My Hand Precious Lord”. The congregation sang “Soon & Very Soon”, “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” and “Just As I Am”. The burial was at Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville, with Dainen Dilly, Joshua Dilly, Evan Hamel, Erika Flynn, Ashley Bohnenkamp and Landon Miller serving as Casketbearers. Honorary Casketbearers were Bruce Lodge and Gay Hempen. Military Rites were conducted by Clarksville AMVETS Post #30.
