Luella M. Miller, 89

Luella M. Miller, 89, of Greene, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison.  Woodley Funeral Home of Greene is caring for Luella and her family.

 

A visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, with a scripture service to follow visitation at Woodley Funeral Home, 519 N First St, Greene.  A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 19 at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery-South Vilmar with Reverend Tamara Keen officiating.

 

Luella was born on May 13, 1934 in Arnolds Park, to William and Ada (Beaumont) Cargill.  She graduated from Nashua High School.  On October 5, 1952, she was united in marriage to Edward William Miller at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua and to their union three children were born: Lyna, Bruce and Susan.  The couple made their home on a farm north of Bristow for over 50 years.  Luella was a homemaker and farmer’s wife; she was a wonderful mom and always took care of everything.  

 

Luella enjoyed vegetable gardening and canning.  She was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, the Coldwater Club and a 4-H leader.  Luella loved quilting and participated in many of the sewing days at church.  She made numerous quilts over the years.  She also liked playing cards such as UNO or 500.  Luella was an excellent cook and wrote her own cookbook that included all of her recipes.  She was affectionately referred to by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Mimi.”  Luella will be remembered as an easy-going and modest woman who loved her family dearly.

 

Those left to cherish her memory include her two children, Lyna Miller of Waverly and Bruce (Jeanette) Miller of Bristow; grandchildren: Benjamin (Allison) Miller, Anthony (Mandy) Miller, Katie Devries, Jennifer (Cole Nedved) Devries and Charlie (Mallory) Devries; 7 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Laverne (Ina) Cargill and Bill (Sonja) Cargill; sisters-in-law, Shelby Baltes and Marlene Mickelson and brother-in-law, Freddy (Suzanne) Miller.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Miller in 2017; daughter, Susan Miller in 2015; brother, Keith Cargill and two step-brothers, Wheeler Hinshaw and Linius Hinshaw.
