Lucinda “Cindy” Sue Wefel, 79

Lucinda “Cindy” Sue Wefel, age 79, formerly of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of Vernon Vilas and Josephine Teresa (Nardicchio) Ellefson, on January 29, 1946, in Mason City, Iowa.  Cindy was baptized and confirmed in her Chirstian faith at a young age and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1964.  After school, Cindy worked at Luster Cleaners in Clear Lake, Iowa, where she was a presser.

On June 27, 1965, Cindy was united in marriage with Laurence “Dean” Wefel at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.  The couple made their home on a farm near Clarksville. Cindy enjoyed being a homemaker and mother.  She also worked at Allison Nursing Home as a med aid and Shell Rock Nursing Home as a cook.  Cindy and Dean later moved to Steamboat Rock, Iowa, and after Dean’s passing, Cindy moved to assisted living in Conrad, Iowa. 

Cindy was a member of First United Church of Christ – Pleasant Valley in rural Clarksville, where she was a part of their women’s fellowship.  Cindy loved gardening in her two large gardens, doing puzzles and painting ceramics. She also enjoyed reading, hummingbirds and doing embroidery work, but her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family.

Cindy passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dean in October 2020; four grandchildren, Monty, March, Anthony and Aiden; and her parents, Vernon and Josephine Ellefson.

Cindy is survived by four children, Robert “Bob” (Sarah) Wefel of Clarksville, Julie (Dennis) Porter of Manchester, Iowa, Sheila (Matt) Clark of Eldora, Iowa, and Deb (Frank) Uthe of Dows, Iowa; 20 grandchildren, Sean (Kayla), Amber (Matt), Skyler (Katelyn), Sadie (Conner), Brady (Courtney), Callie, Shanti (Alex), Zachary, Mariah (James), Cameo, Austin (Mindy), Ciara, Alex, Andrew, Chelsea, Caitlyn “Cailen”, Bobbie Jo, Krystal, Kristina and Billy; 26 great grandchildren, Emma, Brooklyn, Jasper, Oliver, Emilee, Henry, Joseph, Kyivon, Keiyantay, Leon, Gage, Caleb, Skyler, Kayla, Easton, Jalynn, Carter, Kayden, Braxton, Maeve, Braylon, Rhett, Bailey, Chloe, Hunter and Adaline; two brothers, Vernon (Sally) Ellefson of Clear Lake, and Errol (Kay) Ellefson of  Washington, Utah; and one sister, Kathy Trainor of Kanawha, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the First United Church of Christ – Pleasant Valley in rural Clarksville, with Rev. Peter Wenzel officiating.  Organist was Gail Fenneman and she accompanied the congregation as they sang “How Great Thou Art” and “In The Garden”.  Special music, “On The Wings Of A Snow White Dove” sung by Dolly Parton and “Amazing Grace” sung by Elvis Presley was played.  Burial was held at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in rural Clarksville, with Sean, Skyler, Brady, Zachary, Austin, Alex S., James and Joseph serving as Casketbearers.  Honorary Casketbearers were Amber, Cameo, Callie, Shanti, Ciara, Sadie, Mariah, Andrew, Alex J., Chelsea and Caitlyn “Cailen”.
