Lavon Hannah Green, 86
Lavon Hannah Green, age 86, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Shell Rock Health Care Center in Shell Rock, Iowa.
Lavon was born on June 17, 1938, in rural Shell Rock, Iowa, the daughter of Herman W. and Anna Ann (Dirks) Rodenbeck. She was baptized in Vilmar, Iowa on July 17, 1938, and later confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Shell Rock. Lavon attended country school at Norton’s Corner to 8th grade and later graduated Shell Rock High School Valedictorian in 1956. She was united in marriage to George Porter Green on June 10, 1956, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Clarksville, Iowa. Lavon worked for Nelson – Tonjes Law Firm in Shell Rock for 40 years, sold Avon for 40 years, and was known as the “Cake Lady” baking thousands of cakes for weddings, graduations, and other events.
George and Lavon were charter members of Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock. They were the first couple married in the congregation. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Over the Hill Gang, and Cedar Valley Polka Club. Lavon greatest enjoyment was time with family, especially her grandsons. She also liked collecting salt and pepper shakers, traveling with George and the Alpiners Polka Band throughout the Midwest, concerts with her sister Dorothy, summers at the Cabin on Lake Cornelia, and wintering in Harlingen, Texas.
Lavon’s memory is honored by; three sons, Jeff Green and his wife, Cindy of Nampa, Idaho; Tim Green of Shell Rock, Iowa; and Dave Green and his wife, Lori of Shell Rock, Iowa; two grandsons, Nate Gibbs and Michael (Jenna Haugen) Green; one sister, Dorothy Knoedler of Shell Rock; one brother, Edwin Rodenbeck of Montezuma; sister-in-law, Lou Ann Rodenbeck of Westico, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, George; parents; two sisters, Victoria Boettcher and Lucille Thompson; three brothers, Dale, Donald and Lynn Rodenbeck; two nephews, Dennis and Scott Rodenbeck; and a niece, Theresa Kratchmer.
Lavon has been cremated and visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 30, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 31, at Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock. Burial of her ashes will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock.
