Joy Marie Edeker, 62, of Anderson, passed away February 9, 2026 following an unexpected illness. 

 

She was born on November 29, 1963 in Taunton, Massachusetts, the daughter of John H. and Martha (Lewis) Williams.  Joy graduated from Granite High School in 1981 and Morningside College in 1985.  She received her Master of Divinity from Eden Theological Seminary.  

 

Joy moved to Anderson in July of 2024 to pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Anderson, Indiana and was working on her doctorate at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. She had previously served at First Presbyterian Church in Soda Springs, Idaho and at First United Presbyterian in Carthage, Illinois. She had served as a CPE Chaplin in Webster Groves, Missouri and was a teacher assistant at University of Missouri, St. Louis.

 

Joy enjoyed music, both singing and playing the French horn, and valued reading and teaching.  Joy had a deep appreciation for her community and daily worked to make it a better place.  She was thoughtful and caring, and deeply supportive and devoted to helping those in recovery.   Joy will be remembered for her kind, gentle, and joyful spirit, which she shared with everyone she met.

 

Joy is survived by her husband, Todd; her children, Mary Ridge of Caseyville, Illinois and David Ridge of St. Louis, Missouri; sisters, Robin Kinquist of St. Louis, Missouri and Melanie Williams-Harvey of Elizabethtown, KY.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha Williams, and her adopted father, John Vandergriff.

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 11 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 230 West 9th Street, Anderson.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 3-6 PM at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral  Service and one hour before the funeral at the church on Saturday.

 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 11 AM at the John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Bridgeton, Missouri.

 

Memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church or to The Well- Women and Children’s Shelter c/o The Christian Center, P.O. Box 1216, Anderson, IN 46015.
