Jerry Frederick Voss, 86

Jerry Frederick Voss, age 86, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of Paul Frederick and Pauline (Dorothy) (Kilson) Voss, on April 8, 1939, in Waverly, Iowa.  He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1957.  Jerry also completed a semester of college.

Jerry was united in marriage with JoAnn Malinda Schmidt on June 19, 1960, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. After their marriage, Jerry and JoAnn made their home in Clarksville.  Jerry worked at their family’s elevator until it’s closing in 1981.  He also farmed the family farm for 49 years.  Jerry served his community in many ways including, driving school bus, working at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home and volunteering as a fireman.  Jerry retired in 2006.

Jerry was an active member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville, where he served in various capacities through the years, including the church council and church boards.  He enjoyed antique farming equipment and working on old tractors.  Jerry never met a stranger and could talk to anyone.  

Jerry died on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at his home.  Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, JoAnn, on January 20, 2013; and his parents, Paul and Pauline Voss.

Jerry is survived by three children, Bryan (Karla) Voss of Clarksville, Cynthia Voss of Clarksville and Carlin (Kim) French of Jesup, Iowa; six grandchildren, Justin & Wesley Voss, Brandon, Armani and Gavin French, and Conner Weber; six Great-grandchildren; and one sister, Paula (Dick) Grant of Waverly.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville, with Pastor Jill Pliner officiating.  Pianist will be Sharon Leerhoff and she will accompany the congregation as they sing “The Little Brown Church In The Vale” and “How Great Thou Art”.

Burial will be at Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville with Justin Voss, Wesley Voss, Brandon French, Gavin French, Armani French and Conner Weber serving as Honorary Urnbearers.
