Jerry Carl Stirling, 77

Jerry Carl Stirling, age 77, was born the son of Dallas and Dorothy (Youngberg) Stirling on September 12, 1946 in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1965. On June 18, 1966 Jerry was united in marriage to Lonna Hearn at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clarksville. The couple made their home in Clarksville and then moved to an acreage between Shell Rock & Waverly where they raised their family of 4 children, Michelle, Julie, Callie and Jeff.

Jerry was employed at Bantam that became Terex Cranes for 40 years and retired in 2005.

Throughout the years Jerry enjoyed chariot racing, riding horses that included a special trip to the Black Hills, canoeing, camping, fishing and spending 15 winters in Mission, Texas. Jerry made several trips to the boundary waters and an annual trip to Red Wing with family and friends. He enjoyed going on daily drives on the Butler county backroads. Jerry’s grandchildren were his pride and joy. He enjoyed going to their sporting events, activities, and just spending time talking to them. He was known for always bringing a smile to everyone’s face by cracking a joke and enjoyed having a conversation.

Jerry passed away peacefully at his home on 11/30/23 of natural causes. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lonna Stirling (September 9, 2016), his parents, brother Stan Stirling, brother-in-law Jeff Sherburne, and brother-in-law Dave Johnson.

Jerry is survived by his children, Michelle (Tim) Litterer of Clarksville, Julie (Ryan) Becker of Clear Lake, Callie (Henry) Vance of Clarksville, Jeff (Susan) Stirling of Greene; nine grandchildren Brittney (Jerod) Ballhagen, Ethan Litterer (Annabelle), Kennedy (Dylan) Ciavarelli, Kaden Becker, Bella (Brennan) Chapman, Miranda Vance (Skyler), Sierra Vance (Jared), Alexis (Brandon) Cooley, Sam Stirling; two great-grandchildren Stirling Chapman, Sloan Ciavarelli; brothers Ted (Marlene) Stirling, Abe (Laneysa) Stirling; sisters Vicki Johnson, Kim Sherburne, and sister-in-law Deb Stirling and several nieces and nephews.

A private family burial will be held at a later date. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Amvets Building in Clarksville, Iowa on December 9, 2023 from 2-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family and will be decided at a later date.
