Jay “Jaybird” Joel Green, 64

Jay “Jaybird” Joel Green, age 64, of Nashua, Iowa, was born the son of Joel and Thea (Johnson) Green, on September 5, 1960, in Iowa.  He attended Clarksville Schools.

On August 2, 1997, Jay was united in marriage with Connie Sherman on the family farm in rural Clarksville.  Jay and Connie resided on the farm after their marriage. 

In 2019, Jay moved to Nashua, Iowa.  On April 1, 2022, Jay married Jodi Frost at the Little Brown Church. The couple lived in Nashua after their marriage.  Jay worked as a forklift driver at Nestle and retired in 2022.

Jay was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Iowa Hawkeye Football team.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, was a talented artist and loved sketching.  Jay was a fun person to be around, and all of his family and friends knew to be on alert for one of Jay’s pranks.  Jay and Jodi enjoyed traveling and visited Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon.  Jay’s dog, Lily, was his constant companion.  

Jay died on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at his home in Nashua, of natural causes.  Jay was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie, on September 3, 2008; two daughters, Rachel Green and Amanda Averhoff; his father; Joel Green; his mother, Thea Johnson; his grandpa, Albert Reents, and his grandmother, Amelia Reents.

Jay is survived by his wife, Jodi of Nashua; four children, Levi Green of Clarksville, Adam Averhoff of Clarksville, Mark (Ashley) Wedeking of Kasson, Minnesota and Callie Green of Clarksville; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Kurt (Laura) Green of Clarksville and Adam (Sherie) Green of Tennessee; and two sisters, Sara (Ted) Ferch of Clarksville and Jennifer Green of Clarksville.

Visitation was held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Redman Funeral & Cremation Services – Clarksville Funeral Home.  Burial was 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville.  Mark Wedeking, Levi Green, Ted Ferch, Adam Averhoff, Kurt Green and Chris Sherman served as Casketbearers.  Honorary Casketbearers were Lynn Kramer and Scott Melohn.
