George Gerald (G.G.) Roose
 
George was born on January 12, 1934, at home in the farm house in rural Allison, Iowa where he grew up and lived for 74 years and died on July 4, 2024 at Community Nursing Home in Clarksville. He was able to watch that farm gain Century Farm status in Iowa in 2012. G.G. attended Jackson 4 Country School through 8th grade and graduated in 1947 (he even snuck away from home at age 4 to attend). He graduated from high school in Allison in 1951 where he served as class president his senior year. He started farming in 1950 while still in high school.
George served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 and was stationed in Bordeaux, France. When G.G. returned to the States, he attended Wartburg College and graduated in 1961 with a B.A. in Business Administration and Economics. G.G. was a co-founder of the Wartburg College Aviation Club and earned his Private Pilot License.
 
George married Lois Evonne Berg in 1960 and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage and raised 4 children on the farm. While farming in Allison for many years George also worked for American Cyanamid from 1961 – 1966 and AMAX, Inc. from 1966 – 1996 in the potassium mining industry. George and Lois enjoyed entertaining clients and friends to provide hunting retreats on the farm near Allison. George enjoyed sharing his love of adventure and hobbies with his family and friends including fishing, hunting, golfing, water and snow skiing, snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, roller skating, square dancing and travel. In semi-retirement G.G. continued to enjoy traveling the U.S. and Canada delivering motor homes for Bennett Motor Express, Inc.
 
Over the years, George was active in the congregations of St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly. He served on the boards of Community Nursing Home in Clarksville and The Hawkeye Bank of Allison and volunteered with local Amvets activities.
 
He is preceded in death by his wife Lois (Berg) Roose, parents George G. and Mary (Frerichs) Roose and 6 siblings: Viola, Stanley, Marion, Lyle, Donald and infant Daniel.
 
He is survived by children George Daniel Roose (Terri), Mitchell Jay Roose (Lori), Mary Georgann (Roose) Nesbitt (Mark), and Robert Aaron Roose (Jane). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Tabitha DeWitt, Kyle Schueler (Amanda), Heather Allan (Wesley), Rachel Roose, Nicholas Nesbitt, Meredith Nesbitt, George Andrew Roose, Samuel Roose, and Luke Roose and 5 great-grandchildren: Chloe DeWitt, Nora and Gabi Schueler, and George and Winslow Allan.
 
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. with visitation on Friday, July 12 at Redeemer Lutheran Church from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. George has donated his body to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine so interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Community Nursing Home in Clarksville.
