Florence Vance, 91

Florence Vance, 91, of Clarksville died on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the Clarksville Skilled Nursing Home in Clarksville, Iowa.
Florence Myra Yost was born to Ivan Gould Yost and Waiva Lorene (Park) Yost on May 7, 1934, on a farm west of Clarksville, Iowa. She graduated from Clarksville High School in 1952. On June 17 of 1952, she married Daniel Seymour Vance, a union that would last over 72 years until his death in March of 2025. To this union three children were born.
For the early years of their marriage, Flo was a stay-at-home mother, but as her children grew, she decided to pursue a career in respiratory therapy. After graduating from the respiratory therapy program at Allen Hospital in 1967, she worked in that field until her retirement in 1992. During that time, she became a nationally certified therapist and worked at hospitals in Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Waverly, Hampton, and Lodi, California.
Flo could out fish almost anyone, even Dan once in a while. The two of them enjoyed fishing throughout their married lives, and especially loved their cabins in northern Minnesota and on Lake Texoma in Texas after their retirement. She also loved music and could play just about any instrument given just a few minutes of practice. Later in life, she also showed great artistic ability, painting many pictures, often of wildlife; doing diamond painting, and cross stitch art. She also had a talent for knitting and crocheting, often gifting hats and scarves to her children and grandchildren.
Flo leaves behind her three children Russell (Sandy) Vance, Jane (Steve) Thorn, Dawn (Greg) Hicks, and her “son by another mother” Dan (Bonnie) Forry; grandchildren Jennifer Ellerman, Ed (Jen) Vance, Laura (Josh) Featherston, Dave (Brooke) Vance, Jason Tudor, Kim (Zach) Wisell, and Ryan (Anna) Hicks; great grandchildren Jenalyn (Chase Erickson) Funte, Alanna Ellerman, Bodhi Ellerman, Aubrey Vance, Macy Vance, Wesley Featherston, Daniel Featherston, Nora Vance, Wade Vance, Jack Vance, Jackson Wisell, Isaac Wisell, Cobie Merklebach, Rosalyn Hicks; and great-great grandchildren Aiden James Hinders and Oliver Lee Erickson.
Flo was preceded in death by her husband Dan, her parents, grandson Brian Ellerman, and brothers Edwin and Calvin Yost and their spouses.
A celebration of life will be held at the Clarksville Amvets Hall on Saturday, January 3, 2026, 2025 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Memorials can be directed to the family for a later designation in Florence’s name and online condolences left at www.kaisercorson.com.
