Elsie Clara Lovrien, 92

Elsie Clara Lovrien, age 92, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of Michael and Mary (Boes) Miller on August 22, 1930, in Olpe, Kansas. At a young age she moved to Bayard, Iowa with her family. She received her education at Bayard and Coon Rapids Schools and graduated from Coon Rapids in 1948. Shortly after, Elsie began working for an insurance company in Des Moines, Iowa. 

On November 25, 1950, Elsie was united in marriage with Arthur “Art” Lovrien in Jackson, Minnesota. After marriage the couple made their home near Spirit Lake, Iowa. During this time Elsie helped on the farm and raised their six children. In March of 1963, they moved four miles north of Clarksville where they continued to farm. In 1991, they moved into their current home in Clarksville. 

Elsie was an active member of Community United Methodist Church in Clarksville. She was a member of C.A.R.D, 4-H and Youth Committee and Fair Board of Butler County. She recently celebrated 55 year membership of the Clarksville P.E.O. Chapter IT where she had served as past President. 

In her spare time, she enjoyed golfing, gardening, canning, and playing bridge. Elsie and Art enjoyed traveling and they wintered in Texas for 25 years, where they made many friends. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their activities.

On April 3, 2023, Elsie passed away peacefully at the Clarksville Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Clarksville, of natural causes. She is preceded in death by her husband, Art (May 1, 2019); one grandson, Gabriel Lovrien; her parents; two sisters, Helen, and Marie; and six brothers, Vince, Arnold, Elmer, Floyd, Donald, and Ronald.

Elsie is survived by her six children, Jane (Don) Linnenbrink of Beaman, Iowa, Russ (Deb) Lovrien of Clarksville, Sandy (Russ) Vance of Clarksville, Keith Lovrien of Clarksville, Ann (Doyle) Brocka of Allison, and Ted (Wanda) Lovrien of Clarksville; 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Miller of Byron, Minnesota, and Carolyn Miller of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, April 7, 2023, at Community United Methodist Church in Clarksville.  Pastor Joan Thomas officiated the service.  Lola Clark served as organist and she accompanied the congregation as they sang What a Friend We Have in Jesus, In The Garden and Hymn of Promise.  The burial was held in the Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville.  

Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services in Clarksville, and one hour before services at the church.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
