Deb Lore
Debra Sue Lore, age 65, of Allison, was born the daughter of Norman and Minnie (Hartwig) Gulick on June 23, 1956, in Hampton. She moved with her family to Allison in 1969, graduating from Allison-Bristow High School in 1975. She married Hugh Lore on September 26, 1992, at the United Church of Christ in Allison. They made their home in Clarksville before returning to Allison in 2016.
One of Deb’s favorite childhood memories was helping her mother Minnie decorate for the holidays. When Dana and Daniel were born, she relished in the chance to recreate those experiences for her own children. Her Easter, Halloween, and Christmas displays were legendary, but she never passed up a chance to celebrate while showing off her artistic flair. She painted holiday-themed ceramics in her younger years, and created a number of priceless family keepsakes.
Notoriously tenderhearted, Deb loved all animals. She had many pets over the years, raising rabbits with her husband Hugh and bonding with her father Norm over their shared love of birds. When she wasn’t caring for her animals, she enjoyed watching nature documentaries on TV, attending the local animal swaps, and window shopping at PetSmart.
Deb never met a baby she didn’t adore, but her three favorite were her grandchildren: Logan, Carter, and Ava. She loved taking the kids swimming, to the movies, or out for McDonald’s. Babysitting was never a chore--she considered it just another chance to hone her talents as the world’s most devoted grandma and an excuse to stock her cabinets with each grandkid’s favorite snacks.
Deb passed away on May 15, 2022, at Unity Point Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo after a brief illness.
Deb is survived by her husband, Hugh Lore, of Allison; two children, Dana (Chris) Hinders of Clarksville and Daniel (Aimee) Deuell of Greene; three grandchildren, Logan Hinders of Clarksville and Carter and Ava Deuell of Greene, and four siblings Patricia (David) Sackville of Hampton, David (Joanne) Gulick of Waverly, Kent (Pam) Gulick of Allison, and Linda (Dennis) Shear of Dumont. She is preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Minnie Gulick.
Services will be held at the Clarksville Church of Christ on June 9 at 4 p.m. Visitation with the family will be one hour before the service.
