HOLIDAY HOURS

    Reminder…the Library will be CLOSED this Saturday, May 29 and Monday, May 31 in observance of Memorial Day. Stop by the library early to stock up on some great books and movies for the holiday weekend. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, June 1 at 10:00 am.

MADDIE POPPE DISPLAY

    The Library is excited to announce the NEW Maddie Poppe display in the Mark Pulis History Room! It has been three years since Maddie won season 16 of American Idol! The display includes: five of the outfits that Maddie wore on the show (including her audition dress), pictures, posters, some fun pieces....and, behind the scene stories from Maddie about the items! There is also a scrapbook with clippings, articles, and pictures of her experience. A HUGE Thank You goes to Maddie for sharing these items with the Library! The display is available for viewing during the Library’s normal hours and the History Room (in the lower level) is handicapped accessible. Just stop by and let the staff know you’d like to see it!

SUMMER READING CLUB 2021

    Register NOW (through Friday, May 28) for the 2021 Summer Reading Club! All students that finished 3-year Preschool to 6th grade are invited to stop by the library (during normal hours) to sign up! Parents and guardians will also need to sign a new photo-release form at registration and the kids will

receive their special “Reading Colors Your World” bag (full of summer reading supplies and goodies)! Watch the library notes and our Facebook page: Clarksville, Iowa Public Library for updates! And check the kids’ backpacks for a calendar of the programs and events that was sent home (the calendar has also been posted on our Facebook page). We’re looking forward to a summer of reading and fun!

WILLY FOKKENA WRITING AWARD

    The deadline is nearing for the Willy Fokkena Writing Award….Tuesday, June 1 at 5:00 pm is the deadline and they can be dropped off, emailed, or mailed to the Clarksville Public Library. There will be five categories in which the pieces will be judged and cash awards will be given to the top three places in each category (up to 3rd grade; 4th - 6th grade; 7th - 9th grade; 10th - 12th grade; and Adults). Please enter any original writing that you choose, and be sure to include your name, phone number, and which age category you are in. The winners will be announced on the Thursday evening during Pioneer Days (June 10). Thank you for participating and helping the family keep Willy’s memory alive.

BOOK CLUB

    Mark your calendars…the Book Club will meet in-person at the library on Wednesday, June 2 at 6:30 pm to discuss the book “Anxious People” by Fredrik Backman. Hope you can join us!

COLORING CONTEST

                  The Coloring Contest pages are now out for this year’s Pioneer Days Coloring Contest (the theme is the “Roaring 20’s”). There will be six age categories (two different coloring sheets): ages 5 and under; ages 6-9; ages 10-12; junior high to high school (ages 13-18); adult ages 19-60, and adult 61 and up. All elementary students have brought home a coloring page home from school and both pages can also be picked up at the Library or the Iowa State Bank in Clarksville. The deadline for the contest is Wednesday, June 9th and the coloring pages need to be returned to the Library by 5:00 pm that day. Winners will be announced during the Pioneer Days Miss Clarksville crowning. There will be prizes for the winners each category and the contest is being sponsored by Creative Composites VT Industries in Clarksville.
