Annetta Jean Smith, 76

Annetta Jean Smith, age 76, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of John Johnson and Arva Moneta (Young) Jacobs, on November 11, 1948, in Charles City, Iowa. She was baptized and later confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. Annetta received her education at the Clarksville Community Schools and graduated high school in 1966.

On August 7, 1966, Annetta was united in marriage with Kenneth Smith at St. John Lutheran Church. They made their home and lived their entire married life in Clarksville. To this union two children Lora and Chad were born. For a short time, she did babysitting, until the children were in school. Annetta worked for many years at the Clarksville Café as a waitress and eventually became the manager. Through the years, she also did janitorial work at the St. John Lutheran Church, Mid America Energy and the Clarksville City Hall. She retired from McDonald’s in Waverly after 25 years, where she will be remembered for her smile at the second window drive through.

Annetta was a former active and faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, was a member of the Ladies WELCA, and helped serve food for many events. She was currently a member and attended the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville. Through the years she enjoyed dancing and country music, going to the Butler County Fair and car shows, she enjoyed watching most all sports on TV, but her favorite team was the San Francisco 49ers. She loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered for all of her wonderful baking. Family favorites were maidrites, chocolate cake, homemade sugar cookies and fudge bars.

Annetta passed away peacefully into the presence of her Savior on Friday, November 14, 2024, while at the Tripoli Nursing Home in Tripoli, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Arva Jacobs and her husband, Kenneth Smith on December 16, 2022.

Annetta is survived by two children, a daughter, Lora Wedemeier of Plainfield, IA; a son, Chad (Karen) Smith of Denver, IA; five grandchildren, Hillary (David) Smith, Gavin (Halie Geerts) Wedemeier, Zander Wedemeier, Parker (Emily) Smith, Brody Smith; five great-grandchildren, Briella, Hattie, Henry and Hazel Smith and Oaklynn Wedemeier; one sister, Joyce (Roy) Smith of Clarksville; two sisters-in-law, Vicky Hilmer of Clarksville, and Mary (Mike) Lay of Mesa, AZ; and one brother-in-law, Bill (Carla) Faust of Clarksville. 

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville with Jill Pliner officiating.  The organist was Sharon Leerhoff and she accompanied the congregation as they sang “Precious Lord Take My Hand”.  Karen Smith provided special music as she sang “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Broken)” and “I’ll Fly Away”.  The burial was held at Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville with Rick Smith, David Smith, Parker Smith, Brody Smith, Gavin Wedemeier, Zander Wedemeier, Kendall Smith and Kaelan Smith serving as Casketbearers.  Lonnie Jans and Sandra Silva served as the Flower Committee.

Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services – Clarksville Funeral Home, and one hour before services at the church.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
