The Last Sale

If you’ve lived in Clarksville long, or if you’re one of those who watch the Clarksville Star classifieds for good deals, chances are you’ve heard of Ivan and Katherine Ackerman.
     On Saturday, August 11, their family is holding one last sale—the Ivan and Katherine Ackerman estate household and antique auction in The Centre Hall Building at 1211 4th Street, Waverly. On the block will be everything from an Olivewood Lord’s Supper made in Egypt and large tiger and oriental tapestries to Christmas tree ornaments, quilts and electronics.
     “Anybody can come to the auction—even if they don’t come to buy anything, they would see some great things and learn historically by listening to what the auctioneers say, son Robert Ackerman said.
     The Ackermans owned Ackerman’s Antiques and Auto Parts on Main Street in Clarksville in the old Milo Mather’s Building. Ivan started the business 53 years ago and pursued it on the side. He sold his shop in October 2017. He started his other—and main—business, Ackerman Salvage, before graduating from Clarksville High School in 1947 and operated that until 10 years ago.
