Unofficial election results in
Unofficial results of the Nov. 3 City Election were time-stamped by the Butler County Auditor's Office at 9:16 p.m. Tuesday. The Board of Supervisors will officially canvass the results on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
Central and western Butler County:
ALLISON: Voters maintained the status quo with the Allison City Council and mayor.
Three incumbent councilpersons each appeared to win re-election, Janis Cramer with 83 votes, James Blockhus with 81 and Jerry A. Platter with 71. Challenger Dwight E. Poppen garnered 55 votes. There were two write-ins; 14 skipped voting on a seat.
Incumbent Mayor Scot Henrichs won re-election with 52 votes. There were 31 write-ins; 19 skipped it.
BRISTOW: Two council incumbents appeared to be ousted in Bristow.
Five two-year council offices appeared to be secured by Curt Lewis with 34 votes, Kevin Snyder (i) with 30 votes, Tim Winkowitsch 22, Dennis Palmer 20, and Shane Schipper (i) with 19. Incumbents Joyce Fenneman with 18 votes and Nancy Rieken with six votes were apparently unseated, pending the canvass.
The two-year office of mayor was determined by 33 voters who wrote in a candidate for the position.
Incumbent Mayor Dennis Peterson appeared to win the write-in vote with 29.
APLINGTON: Aplington kept the status quo.
Three people turned in papers to run for three, four-year Aplington City Council seats, and each won. Newcomer Randall P. Hanson garnered 43 votes, incumbent Alan Meyer had 52 and Deb Jacobs 44, for the vacancy. Jacobs was appointed in June 2014 when a former councilman moved to Parkersburg. There were three write-ins for council and 14 undervotes, and 12 undervotes for the vacancy.
Mayor Jason Mehmen received 51 votes for re-election to the two-year office. There were two write-ins and three undervotes.
AREDALE: Each of three people who filed papers won a two-year council seat. Claudia Bolles will join Michael Olesen (i) and Rita Olesen (i) on the council. Each received six votes. There were three write-ins for council.
Mayor Jack Bolles won re-election to the two-year office with six votes. There was one write-in.
GREENE: Two, four-year offices on Greene City Council were won by challenger Benjamin Backer, with 222 votes, and Marilyn Folkers (i) with 175. Incumbent Audrey Smith lost the position with 89 votes.
James L. O'Brien, unopposed in his bid for mayor, secured the two-year office with 193 votes. There were 53 write-ins and 11 undervotes. Present Mayor Bill Christensen did not file papers.
DUMONT: Three people ran for and secured three, four-year terms on the Dumont City Council. They are Brenda Blohm Baldwin with 44 votes, Reid C. Menken with 44 votes and Chris Showalter with 46 votes. There was one write-in and voters skipped 18 council seats they could have selected.
Mayor Edwin L. Mouw was unchallenged on the ballot and won re-election to the two-year office with 44 votes. There were two write-ins and five undervotes.
PARKERSBURG: The incumbents have it on the Parkersburg City Council, and Schuck will begin in the vacant council position.
Incumbents Dan Bruns with 320 votes, Klint C. Knock with 342 votes and Leon Thorne with 328 votes won re-election. Challenger Chad Buss came in fourth at 167 votes, about half what was needed for a seat followed by Melodie McLean with 150 votes, and Karen Anderson-Webber with 87 votes. There were nine write-ins, 64 undervotes and three overvotes.
Harlan K. Schuck won the race for the Parkersburg City Council vacancy with 313 votes to John L. Heffner's 164.*
The Parkersburg mayoral office, held by Perry Bernard, was not up for re-election this cycle.*
Eastern Butler County:
CLARKSVILLE: A councilman won the mayoral race, and a former mayor won the vacant seat on the Clarksville City Council.
For the two open council seats, Councilman Jeff Kolb secured re-election with 205 votes, and former Mayor Kenneth Allen Smith secured Val Swinton's vacated council seat with 146 votes.
In third at 96 votes was Roger Doty. Jessica Reints received 70 votes, Milo LuVerne Tvedt 51 votes, and Amy Learn 20. Of note, Councilwoman Katie Cummings announced her resignation on Monday, Nov. 2 after finding a job in the Britt area, so there will be a third vacancy to fill on the council.
Val F. Swinton, a former council member, won the mayoral office by a 203-vote landslide and will take over for [Mayor] David Kelm at swearing-in in January. Todd E. Doty came in second with 83 votes. Kai Trevor Brost received eight votes, and Jason Havlik six.
NEW HARTFORD: Incumbent Councilman Gordon Ballhagen secured 24 votes, and Raymond Mobley appeared to win the write-in vote for the second open council seat with 12 votes, for the four-year positions. Current Mayor John Anderson filed to run again for that two-year office and received 37 votes.
SHELL ROCK: Mike Klinefelter, with 108 votes, will join incumbents Donald G. Bonzer, who had 121 votes, and Rosalee Meyer, also 108 votes, on the Shell Rock City Council. Incumbent Edward Willert garnered 100 votes, not enough to keep his seat on the council. Mayor Larry Young won re-election with 129 votes for the two-year position.
