Wiegmann recognized by city of Minneapolis

October 11, 2018 was proclaimed Wendy Wiegmann Day by Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey in recognition of Wiegmann’s 20 years of service at Simpson Housing, where she works to house, support, and advocate for people experiencing homelessness in the city of Minneapolis.
     “In her more than two decades in this work, Wendy has made countless contributions to the development and implementation of innovative and thoughtful programs serving single adults, families and children experiencing homelessness throughout the Twin Cities…” Frey’s proclamation reads. “Wendy’s has served as a mentor, a leader and an inspiration to breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty.
     Wiegmann first joined Simpson as a Case Manager in 1998, and has been the Director of Programs since 2006.  Before coming to Simpson, she was an advocate at the Dorothy Day Center in St. Paul, MN and volunteered for the Christian Appalachian Project in Kentucky.
     Wendy has a BA in Psychology and English from Wartburg College and an MA in Organizational Leadership from St. Catherine’s University.  She was the 2007 recipient of the Bruce Vento Award for Distinguished Service, and is a community leader on efforts to end homelessness, serving on committees of Heading Home Hennepin and other local initiatives.
