Every summer Boy Scouts from Allison and Greene head out on an adventure. This summer they headed to Lake Superior’s national shore line.
The group started off in the Porcupine Mountain of Michigan for some hiking, which did not go as planned. Scouts are taught to “be prepared,” however, they were not ready for the black fly invasion. The flies were so bad that when one was killed, six more showed up for the funeral. Due to the severity of the flies, the scouts moved their camp to Twin Lakes State Park, Michigan, near Houghton.
Along the way, they stopped at The Adventure Mine, in Greenland, Michigan. The mine operated from 1850- 1920, and is one of the best preserved mine sites of its age. Although the adventure always showed great promise and millions of dollars were spent pursuing that dream, the mine always won out in the end. It never produced a profit.
