Sue Schrage’s journey to the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame began rather abruptly.

While attending the Butler County Young Riders Christmas potluck with her daughter 13 years ago, she was approached with a basket of 4-H papers and a request to lead the group.
 
“They said ‘It’s all yours,’” she said with a laugh. “I had no idea I was going to be taking it over, but when I get a job, I try to do it to the best of my abilities.”
 
Fast-forward to Aug. 20, 2017, more than 13 years after she became leader, when Schrage was inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair. She was one of 121 inductees this year.
 
Schrage said the honor caught her by surprise.
