Savvy Seniors: Memories of the farm, music and teaching

Marvin Boelman, 74, resides at Maple Manor Village in Aplington.
     A retired teacher and principal, the focuses of Boelman’s life have always been teaching and music, but he has many fond memories of the farming in rural Butler County.
     His family raised cattle, hogs, chickens, corn and beans and had a garden where tomatoes, beans, lettuce and radishes flourished on their farm outside of Aplington.
     Their first tractor was a 77 Oliver which they bought in Allison at Bill Jacobs’ implement shop.
