Savvy Seniors: Life on the farm

Lorraine “Larri” Maupin, 96, resides at Shell Rock Health Care Center.
     She was born on a farm three miles northwest of Plainfield. Maupin kept busy with farm chores. She milked the cows and fed the horses, pigs and chickens. Her family also raised sheep, which were sheered for wool. They grew corn, oats, wheat, hay and later soybeans, and also had pasture.
     Her family was in a threshing ring.
     They also picked corn by hand, threw it in the wagon, took the load in, unloaded it, and picked another wagon the next day.
