Shirlene (Hinders) Mulder, 81, resides at Maple Manor Village in Aplington.
     Growing up on a farm near Ackley, she remembers there were plenty of chores to do—gathering eggs, feeding calves, milking cows and taking care of the cats and dogs. Her family raised corn, oats and hay on 160 acres.
     Still, as a girl she made time to play games like hide and seek, kick the can, and Annie, Annie over. She also has fond memories of playing in the haymow and jumping from one pile of bales to another.
     Her family got their first tractor, an Allis Chalmers, in the 1940s.
