“Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus right down Cherry Street Way, with Shell Rock firemen and Mrs. Claus. Oh, now what do you say. Bells are ringin’, children singin’. All is merry and bright. So hang your stockings and look outside ‘cause Santa Claus comes tonight,” Shell Rock residents caroled on Thursday evening as Santa made his first Butler County appearance of the season at city hall.
Although it may be early in the season, about 100 Shell Rock residents turned out in force for the first annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony, and were well rewarded with popcorn, Christmas cookies and candies, coffee and hot chocolate. The balloon man was on the scene, and Norah Bruns provided holiday music.     Guests brought non-perishable food items for the Shell Rock Food Bank. Kids enjoyed ornament crafting and cookie decorating, and hung ornaments on the tree, as everyone waited for Santa’s arrival.
Then as the firetruck pulled up with Santa and Mrs. Claus aboard, caroling began. Santa had treats for all the kids, and paused for photos before lighting the Christmas tree.
“I thought it went better than we could have hoped for…” said Robyn Holden, who helped organize the event. “There was something for everyone.”
