Roger “Butch” Lee Jacobs, 78

Roger “Butch” Lee Jacobs, age 78, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of Paul William and Maxine Mae (Smith) Jacobs on September 7, 1946, rural Waverly, Iowa. He was baptized into the Christian faith and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. He attended Clarksville High School and then enlisted in the United States Army on January 4, 1966. He was stationed in Germany in the 13th Artillery Battalion and was honorably discharged on December 15, 1967.
Butch was united in marriage on July 3, 1969, with Margaret Rose Johnson at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, Iowa. They made their home near Greene, Iowa, for a couple of years and then moved to an acreage near Clarksville where they farmed, raised hogs, sheep and livestock. In 1972 they moved to their present home in Clarksville. During this time, he also worked at Terex Cranes, formerly Bantam Cranes, in Waverly, until his retirement in 2004.
Butch was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and a former member of St. James Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong member of the Clarksville AMVETS where he enjoyed helping for many years with their fish fry’s. Through the years he enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially trout, with his family and teaching the grandkids everything they needed to know about it. Butch was an avid Hawkeye fan and loved to watch the games, but when grandkids attended the Iowa State University he was known to support the Cyclones too. In his last years, Butch enjoyed making his nightly “hot laps” driving around town checking out the wildlife. Some of his favorite times were spending time with his family and especially attending all his grandkid’s events.
Butch passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Unity Point Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Maxine Jacobs and one sister, Karen Bachman.
Butch is survived by his wife, of 55 years, Margaret Jacobs; two children, Sheila (Tracy) Yost of Shell Rock, and Ben (Stacy) Jacobs of Clarksville; five grandchildren, Jacob Yost, Jared Yost, Samuel Jacobs, Morgan Jacobs and Sidney Jacobs; two sisters-in-law, Judith (Dean) Fink of Cedar Falls, and Karen (John) Karnik of Waucoma; and two brothers-in-law, Junior Bauchman of Lamont, and Clifton (Vonnie) Johnson of Granger.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church in
Clarksville, with Pastor Charles Underwood officiating the service. Pianist was Jill Pliner and she accompanied the congregation as they sang “Shall We Gather At The River”. Special music, “Daddy Never Was The Cadillac Kind” recorded by Confederate Railroad and “I Cross My Heart” recorded by George Strait were played. Burial was held at Butler Center Cemetery in rural Allison, with Jacob Yost, Jared Yost, Samuel Jacobs, Morgan Jacobs, Sidney Jacobs and John Davis serving as Casketbearers. Honorary Casketbearers were Arlan Laube and Jerry Jacobs
Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services in Clarksville. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later time. Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
