Jacob Risse of rural Sumner represented the Butler County REC during the annual REC Youth Tour in Washington D.C. June 7-14. He has also been chosen as Iowa’s 2018-2019 Youth Leadership Council Delegate, and will return to D.C. July 14-18 to represent the state of Iowa.
Delegates from almost every state will present speeches at the conference in July and receive leadership training. One of the delegates will then be chosen as the national spokesperson for REC youth.
“It’s definitely a great honor…” Risse said. “I’m very excited.”
During last week’s trip, Risse and other youth from Iowa’s cooperatives visited locations in D.C. including the Vietnam, Korean, Lincoln and Jefferson memorials and the Washington Monument. They also visited the Marine Corp museum, Holocaust Museum, Newseum and some of the Smithsonian museums and took a dinner cruise.
