Remembering their sacrifice - Allison Memorial Day service held

A little rain didn’t stop the Allison AMVETS from parading the colors down Main Street, as they and their fathers before them have done every year since 1946.
     “Memorial Day is a time to honor fallen comrades. All of us were in the service. Those guys gave their all,” said Veteran Craig Franken. “We can walk down Main Street and get wet.”
     For the veterans, it’s not a matter of how many people show up to watch, how hard it rains, or how warm or cold it is, it’s a tradition of honoring those who gave their lives for this country. Some have marched in the parade since the 1960s.
     After the parade, the community gathered at the North Butler Elementary Auditorium for a Memorial Day program.
