Veterans Day—the 100th anniversary of the World War I Armistice—was commemorated at Clarksville Community Schools on Monday morning, Nov. 12. The program commenced with the presentation of colors by the AMVET Color Guard.
The high school choir sang the national anthem, and principal Bob Saathoff welcomed veterans, guests, staff and students and gave opening remarks. A video was played featuring a tour of Arlington National Cemetery.
AMVETS Commander Dan Forry was the guest speaker. Forry served in the United States Army Reserve from 1972 until 1978. He told the stories of Clarksville veterans. His address, in part, is below.

You can read books about their contributions to our nation during time of conflict. These were great individuals, and without their leadership, we probably would not be a nation today. What you cannot read about, and there aren’t movies about are the people from  our town, from Clarksville, that repeated the following oath, ‘I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States…’” Forry said.
