Ione Hardy from Clarksville has been chosen to be the 2019 Relay for Life of Butler County’s Honored Survivor. Supporting family and friends will accompany Hardy as she shares her story at the Butler County Relay for Life in Allison on Friday, July 12.
Retired from a lifetime of teaching, Ione Hardy has a story that encompasses most of her adult life. She will be telling of a youth filled with time spent outdoors with no sunscreen and the consequences that she is still fighting.
When she discovered she had skin cancer at the age of 30, she had no idea how vulnerable she was to this persistent disease.
"Even though I wore a hat when helping out in the fields, sunburns were a common occurrence for Ione in those days, as there was no such thing as sunscreen," Hardy said.
