Pioneer Days Spelling Bee

“What’s more amazing than a talking dog?” Lola Clark asked at the Clarksville library Friday afternoon. If you guessed a spelling bee, you’d be right!
     Twenty-four participants matched their wits in the annual Pioneer Days Spelling Bee. They ranged in age from first graders to 100-year-old Dottie Winkey, who was last year’s adult champion.
     This year, first place in first/second grade went to Noah Sterken. Third/fourth grade was won by Aaron Miller. Fifth/sixth grade was won by Caitlin Jacobsen, and the adult division was won by Jeanie Scheidecker.
     Lola Clark welcomed visitors and participants with fun riddles about bees. Miss Clarksville runner-up Kylie Smith spoke with attendees. Then teacher of the day Lorna Schwartz pronounced each word, while judges Carol Hinman and Shirley Clark listened for the correct spellings.
