Owen Almelien wins North Butler School National Geographic GeoBee

Thirty-two students at North Butler participated in the school-level competition of the National Geographic Geobee on Thursday, January 17, 2019, and Monday, January 21, 2019.  Owen Almelien, an eighth grader, won first place, with Nolan Rogers, an eighth grader, winning second place, and Drake Nielsen, a seventh grade student, finishing in third place.
     After the preliminary rounds held last week, there were 10 finalists vying for the top spot.  Those that were in the final 10 competition were Owen Almelien, Wyatt Anderson Henry Endelman, Macy Endelman, Jaxson Miller, Drake Nielsen, Miles Nielsen, Trager Pecha, Nolan Reser and Nolan Rogers.  
     Mr. Kirk Clark, director of the school bee, was assisted by MaTina Clark (NB 7-12 Counselor), and Jordan Vanderloop (NB Teacher).  All students in fourth through sixth grades and many parents and grandparents were there also to witness this great annual event.
     Other students who were involved with the first day of competition but didn’t make the finals were: Alex Almelien, Ezra Almelien, Zane Ascher, Kolton Becker, Kamdon Boos, Lucas Goodrich, Addisyn Gotto, Leah Hudson, Lincoln Johnson, Samuel Martinez-Macias, Fae McNeal, Zach McPherson, William Nielsen, Finn Rogers, Meredith Shultz, Addasyn Spain, Owen Swygman, Annabel Vieth, Drew Vorhes, Pryor Wiederkehr, Ava Wiegmann, and Aiden Witte.
