Butler County’s Emergency Management Coordinator Mitch Nordmeyer is resigning as of March 31 to accept a position as State Training Officer with Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
Nordmeyer, from Greene, has served the county since July of 2009.
“Mitch is going to be really hard to replace. I don’t think a lot of people realize what he’s really brought into this county,” said supervisor Greg Barnett. “He’s brought in so many resources, equipment, pumps, generators, and the list goes on. We’ve got hundreds of thousands of dollars of inventory that is the state’s property located in Butler County at our disposal. He’s been the reason for that. He’s done an excellent job.”
In his new position as a state training officer, Nordmeyer will be responsible for helping coordinators across the state’s 99 counties with training and will provide access to a cadre of classes and instructors. Nordmeyer will also act as a liaison between Iowa Homeland Security and county EMA coordinators, visit counties affected by disasters and help with their emergency response, filling a new role within the department. As a former EMA coordinator himself, Nordmeyer will know the ins and outs of the job and understand what coordinators need.
