The North Butler Mock Trial team traveled to the NIACC regional to compete on Thursday, March 7. This was a pretty large regional that saw 12 teams competing. The top four teams received a bid to go to the state competition. The schools that competed were GHV (2), Humboldt (2), Independence, Marion Home School, Mason City, Ridge View, Roland Story (2), Shenandoah, and of course North Butler.
North Butler competed against one of the Humboldt teams first and was given the task of the defense in the court case. Both judges agreed that North Butler was the winner, with Judge 1 giving the nod to NB by a score of 109.5 to 106.5. Judge 2 agreed with NB scoring 108 to Humboldt’s 104.5.
Three Bearcats came away with individual honors. First time mockers Sydney Eiklenborg (sophomore) and Brandon Cooley (senior) both received Honorable Mention All District Outstanding Witness for their witness portrayals in the trial. Veteran attorney Nadia Treichel (Junior) received an All District Outstanding Attorney award for her work as a Defense attorney.
In the second competition, of the day North Butler faced a strong Garner Hayfield Ventura team as NB now had to serve as the Plaintiffs in the case.  NB put forth a good effort and just fell short of a berth to state. Judge 1 ruled that NB lost to GHV by a score of 111-112. Judge 2 ruled the Bearcats won with a score of 108.5 to 107.5!
