Clarksville has a new school superintendent as of January 1. Joel Foster believes what happens to people in life is guided by the decisions they make, and he looks forward to serving the Clarksville school district.
“I will be meeting with the board to determine what direction that they would like for the district to go,” Foster said. “I work for the board and the patrons of the district, but I will work diligently to make Clarksville schools a place where people want to work, and parents would like to send their kids.”
Foster came from a rough background as a child, and attended high school in Riceville. His goal in becoming an educator was to try to make sure kids from similar backgrounds to his would not get left behind. He received his undergraduate degree in physical education from Upper Iowa University in 1990, but didn’t take his first teaching job till Jan 2001.
In the meantime, he did construction work, served as a counselor at a boys’ ranch, and drove a truck for Coca-Cola.
