Mavis Luebbers, 87

Mavis Luebbers, 87, of Greene, passed away early Tuesday morning, November 29, 2022. Funeral Mass took place at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 2, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene. Public visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 1, at Counsell Woodley Funeral Home in Greene, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Burial took place in the Dumont Cemetery.



Mavis was born July 30, 1935, to parents Harm and Anna (Strutthoff) Tjabring at their home near Geneva. She graduated from Geneva High School. Mavis married Berton ‘Paul’ Luebbers on September 19, 1953, in Hampton. To this union three children were born: Jay, Shelly, and Dan.



The family moved from Geneva to a house near Hansell, and in 1967 they moved to Aredale. They lived there up until Mavis and Paul moved for the last time in 2009, this time to Greene.



Mavis was a good-hearted person, and she loved her family very much. She loved all her grandchildren dearly and was very involved in their lives. Mavis was a talented woman who loved crafts. She enjoyed ceramics, sewing, and candy making, and also enjoyed going to craft fairs. One of her favorite things to do was volunteering to work at the polling places for elections in Butler County.



Mavis was a very active member of the various communities she lived in throughout her life. She was a Catholic Daughter and member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene. She was also part of a 500 club with her friends. Mavis and Paul would spend two weeks at the Iowa State Fair together every year.



Left to cherish Mavis’ memory include her children; Dan (Dana) Luebbers and Shelly (Frank) Brown, grandchildren; Tiffany (Tylor) Hogan, Brice Luebbers, Kaylee (Jeremy) Bilharz, Boe (Alexis) Brown, Luke (Harley) Brown, and Jesse (Kasey) Brown, eight great-grandchildren, and sister Colleen Hofmeister.



She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, parents, son Jay, and her brother Ronnie.
