Mary Tyrrell wins Dumont Council seat

Dumont had an election night surprise as Mary Tyrrell scored a seat on the council with 45 votes to incumbent Jan Reysack’s 38.
     Tyrrell may be the one most surprised by her victory. She moved to Dumont a year ago and when she started her campaign, she was skeptical she could even find 15 signatures to get on the ballot. But her message is simple: she’s there to serve the people of Dumont. She’s there to listen.
     “I went down to get on the ballot, and learned I had to have 15 people sign. To be honest, I hardly knew 15 people,” Tyrrell said.
     So, she started walking from door to door and talking with people, and her campaign quickly blossomed. She had 15 signatures within half an hour.
