Clarksville’s hometown star Maddie Poppe will be performing on American Idol’s Premiere on ABC Sunday, March 11 at 7 p.m.
“I watched that show growing up, and being able to audition was so much fun,” said Poppe. “It felt like a blur pretty much. … It’s hard to believe that it happened still. I don’t think I’ll believe it till I see it happen on the screen.”
The twenty-year-old Indie-Pop singer and songwriter, daughter of Trent and Tonya Poppe, first gained national attention when she auditioned on the season premiere of NBC’s The Voice in February 2016. She accompanies herself on guitar, ukulele and keyboard, and has performed at Clarksville’s Pioneer Days, the Butler County Fair, the Country Showdown Midwest Regional Finals and at many other venues.
“I started singing when I was 14 at a talent show—my sister asked me to sing with her at my school. I ended up doing it, and played a little here and there with my dad’s bluegrass and rock band and sang occasionally with them,” said Poppe. “Then I started singing and playing on my own—playing gigs at the nursing homes, libraries … Pioneer Days in Clarksville.”
