Maddie Poppe heads to Hollywood

American Idol celebrity judges didn’t even debate on Monday’s premiere: their verdict was simple. Maddie Poppe’s audition, featuring the “Rainbow Connection” won her spot in the next round of the competition in Hollywood.
     “I’m not critiquing ya, I’m just sayin’ yes,” said celebrity judge Luke Bryan.
     Katy Perry noted the distinctive quality of Poppe’s voice, and gave her a vote as well. She later tweeted “I see my 17-year-old self in you.”
     “It was kind of a blur to be honest. It was so surreal in there. Honestly I didn’t feel like I was in front of three celebrities. I felt super-relaxed and kind of at home,” Poppe said.
