Local Memorial Day programs

Allison
     The Allison Amvet Post #88 Drill Team will parade at 9 a.m. Monday, May 27 on Main St., followed by a service at the school auditorium. The service will include selections performed by the North Butler Middle School band, prayers by Pastor Craig Harris, a Memorial Day address from Keegan Birkecht or Retrieving Freedom, and a song by Brooklyn Wix and Jordon Osterbuhr. The drill team will proceed to the Allison Cemetery where the large flag will be presented and raised, followed by prayer, the volley and taps. The drill team will then visit the Butler Center Cemetery and Vilmar Cemetery to honor our veterans.
 
Clarksville
     On Memorial Day May 27, the Clarksville AMVETS will hold a Memorial Day parade from Main Street to Lynwood Cemetery, starting at 10:45 a.m. The AMVET Color Guard, Scouts and the Clarksville school marching band will participate.
     There will be a program at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial at Lynwood Cemetery. The Clarksville marching band will play the national anthem. The colors will be posted followed by the Invocation. The Gettysburg Address will be read, and the Clarksville band, directed by John Sundet, will perform. Flanders’ Field will be read. The address of the day will be given by Pastor Joan Thomas.
     There will be a reading. The program will conclude with the Roll of the Honored Dead and a Memorial
Day prayer. The Honor Guard
will volley. Taps will be played and the colors retired.
 
Plainfield
     Services will start at the Horton Cemetery at 10 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., there will be a wreath-laying at North Cedar Park Bridge. Then the procession will continue to Willow Lawn Cemetery for a service at 11 a.m.
 
Shell Rock
     The Shell Rock Memorial Day Program, under the direction of American Legion Post No. 393, will be held on Monday, May 27. Officer of the day will be Dave Lehman.
     The parade will assemble at the school house at 8:45 a.m., begin at 9 a.m. and march to River Bridge to decorate the water in memory of soldiers and sailors buried at sea. Pastor Kim Smith will lead in prayer, and a firing squad will fire the salute with Duane Harms in command. The Waverly-Shell Rock High School Band will participate in the parade under the direction of Jim Vowels.
     The parade will march to the cemetery for the program. Jon Dornbusch will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Pastor Kim Smith will give the invocation, and the Boy Scouts will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Libby Dix will read In Flanders Field. The Legion Auxiliary will lead in the first verse of America the Beautiful. Everyone is welcome to sing. Jon Dornbusch will read the roll call, and Pastor Kim Smith will give the Benediction. Wreaths will be placed by the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
     The firing squad will fire a Memorial Rifle Salute. Charles Thompson will play taps, and the Legion Auxiliary will lead in God Bless America. The squad and company will then re-form and march to headquarters.
     In event of rain, services will be held in the Boyd Building.
