Lasting Love - Mel and Valda Bohlen

Mel and Valda Bohlen will celebrate 62 years of marriage on February 26.
     The couple met when a mutual friend introduced them at a root beer stand shortly after they graduated from high school. Mel Bohlen had just moved to a home across the field from where Valda lived. They enjoyed going to movies in Waverly together, and two years later were married at St. James Lutheran Church at the age of 19.
     They had three attendants each, and served cake and ice cream at the reception in the church basement.
     Valda had been working at the bank since before she graduated high school, and Mel worked as a hired man for a farmer.
