Pumpkin bars and coffee were on the menu at Cedar Ridge this Saturday as customers enjoyed a fall open house featuring mums, pumpkins, squash, fountain grasses and gourds.
Cedar Ridge is a family affair. Scott and Ginger Schild purchased too many mums one autumn 14 years ago, so they sold the extra mums from a red-flyer wagon in their front yard.
The flowers sold well, so before long, they built a 6x6-foot greenhouse. Their business has grown, and so has their greenhouse. They have been selling mums—and more—ever since.
Pie pumpkins, decorative pumpkins, butternut squash and gourds are supplied by Mennonites in northern Iowa.
