Grace (Greta Eilers) Arends, age 102

Grace (Greta Eilers) Arends, age 102, of Clarksville, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Grace was born on May 31, 1923, in Germany, the daughter of William and Alma (Kampman) Eilers. She was baptized in infancy. The family came to America in 1925 and settled in Butler County where she attended country schools. She earned her High School Equivalency Certificate in later years. She was confirmed in St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, Iowa.
Grace married Edward Arends on November 25, 1945. He died December 20, 1985. In earlier years she was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clarksville where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the church choir. Grace also sang at many weddings and funerals.
Grace was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa, where she attended bible classes and served as secretary of the church council. Grace enjoyed reading, dancing, bowling, walking, and golfing. She had two holes in one in 1996 and 2011 at CARD in Clarksville where she was a member. Graces greatest enjoyment was family and friends, however, she also liked sunrises, sunsets, birds, flowers, the color blue, and music. In later years she became hard of hearing and suffered from a heart condition which kept her from doing things she enjoyed.
Grace’s memory is honored by; daughter, Anne (Gerald) Becker of Clarksville; son, Wendell Arends of Janesville, Iowa; grandson, Matthew (Tracy) Arends of St. Paul, Minnesota; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Eilers of Allison, Georgia Eilers of Clarksville, and Betty Eilers of Webster City, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, William, Chris, Edward, and George Eilers; and four sisters; Gesina Jungling, Alma Bettenga, Margareta March, and Adeline Johnson.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 20, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waverly from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at St. John at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will follow at Allison Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church or Cedar Valley Hospice. Online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com. 319-352-1187
